The road to Blum house, where we teach some of the kindergarten Kids is being resurfaced... well actually just being surfaced.

Before, it was a bricky, boggy trench full of coconut husks, plastic Bottles, dead squashed rats and odd broken flip flops which floods in the rainy season making it sometimes completely impassable and meant that often people have to pick their way across the railway tracks to get to the school (this isn't quite as dangerous as it sounds as the trains hardly ever run, and certainly not at any speed).

Now they are making it a concrete road which means that it is currently blocked by huge piles of sand and gravel, cement mixers, and grizzled looking men with missing fingers. This of course does not stop the people, cycles and motos from using the road, it just means occasionally having to traverse the big piles of sand and gravel, or avoid treading on newly laid wet concrete by taking detours off the road though people houses, which is rather interesting and fun. It is also providing hours of entertainment for the local people.

I am not sure however, how this is going to prevent the houses flooding at all as the road is now 1 - 2 foot higher than the tiny yards and front of rooms of the houses.

Yesterday lessons were pretty hellish, as for a considerable portion of it we had no electricity (sometimes it goes off because of the storms, sometimes it just goes off for no reason at all) so this meant we had no lights and no fans. We also had no interpreter so as you can imagine these were challenging conditions; no one can see you , no one understands you, and everyone is too hot to care anyway.

After that was over we decided to treat ourselves to a trip to the blessed air-conditioning of the shopping centre, for pizza and Ice cream.

This pizza place actually does pizza with crusts stuffed with cheese, which is then stuffed with sausage, which is itself stuffed with more cheese. I didn't have one though it did make me think of Guy.

Then we went and had ice cream, and within about 15 mins I realised something wasn't right and had to rush back to the hotel where I have since spent the last 20 hours sleeping and being very sick indeed. I'll spare you the unpleasant details... I do feel much better now, so I am going in for lessons this afternoon.
